Acts 6
Ministry to Widows
The Acts 6 Ministry seeks to honor, esteem, and encourage widows within our church in accordance with God’s Word, confirm their place in the body, and enrich their worship experience. This Deacon-led ministry connects individuals interested in volunteering to widows within our church body. The primary function is to establish relationships with widows and provide for their needs.
Help Serve a Widow
Throughout both the Old and New Testaments, the Bible is clear that widows are close to God’s heart and that the Church is to provide extra care and concern for its widows. Our Acts 6 Ministry exists to serve widows in our church body and was founded on the biblical principle outlined in Acts 6 to oversee their care.
We welcome the opportunity to serve with you and hope that you will consider one of the volunteer opportunities in our Acts 6 Ministry. Our church has over 100 widows who have various degrees of needs that we desire to meet. NOTE: All volunteers are required to have an active (within the last year) background check. If you volunteer and have not had a background check with us or your background check is older than a year, we will notify you by email and will provide you with a link that will allow us to conduct a background check.

Ministry Team Assignment
A ministry team will provide you a connection to individuals in the church body, encouragement, support, prayer, practical help and resources within and outside of the Acts 6 Ministry. Ministry team members will serve you in a variety of ways (e.g., calls, cards, visits, meals, activities, acts of kindness, assistance with needs, etc.). Wouldn’t it be a relief and comfort to have a Ministry Team to contact in times of challenges or when you need wise counsel? If you are interested in having an assigned Ministry Team, please email us at acts6@shepherds.org or call Care Ministry at 919-233-9100.
Project or Repair
We are excited to offer and maintain a database of Special Talent Volunteers within our church who possess many talents and skills for practical assistance to widows. These volunteers can assist you with inside and outside work such as: lawn care, home repairs, changing bulbs, flipping a mattress, hanging pictures, cleaning, minor plumbing, minor electrical, computer support, painting, minor carpentry, minor appliance and home electronics and more. If you have a project or repair and don’t have family nearby to assist you, please click HERE to submit a Project or Repair Request. For assistance, please email us at acts6@shepherds.org or call Care Ministry at 919-233-9100.
Widow's Might
In addition to the Acts 6 Ministry, widows are encouraged to participate in Widow’s Might, which is a fellowship of Christian widows dedicated to encouraging dependence on God and embracing life with hope and promise while surrounded by a loving Christian community. The group meets monthly throughout the year.
