PICKLEBALL
Monday, Tuesday & Friday, 9 am-12 pm | Gym
All adults (age 55+) are invited to come for this lively racket game created with one thing in mind: fun! It’s easy to learn and play whether you’re five, eighty-five or somewhere in between.
WHAT IS PICKLEBALL?
Logistics of the Game
Every Tuesday and Thursday we set up 2 nets in the gym. Four people can play on a court at one time. Shepherd’s Church will only be providing (4) paddles, so you may need to bring your own equipment. You will not be required to wear a mask on the court, but you will need to wear one if you are on the sidelines.
The ball used is similar to a wiffle ball, but slightly smaller. The lower net and wiffle ball allow the game to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities, while still allowing more competitive players to test their mettle. Pickleball Inc. is the original manufacturer of pickleball paddles, nets, balls, and accessories. The latest versions of all these products can be found here on their website.
Rules of the Game
In addition to the modified net and gear, there are several key rules in Pickleball® that help make the game more accessible. In tennis, and many net sports, games are often won and lost by the power of the serve. In Pickleball, the ball must bounce once on each side before volleys are allowed. This opens the game to more players and extends play for added fun.

QUILTING QUEEN BEES
Meets 1st & 3rd Tuesday of Month | 10 am-2 pm
in Family Center, Room FC206
Open to Ladies of All Ages!
Whether you’re an expert at quilting or a newbie wanting to learn from seasoned sewers, you’re welcome to join our Quilting Queen Bees! The group meets the first and third Tuesday of every month. Bring a lunch and come join us from 10 am-2 pm in Room FC206 in the Family Center.
Make A Difference by Quilting!
Besides enjoying a love for quilting and great fellowship together, our Quilting Queen Bees get the opportunity to bless others with their quilts. This large pink quilt was made by two our ladies and given to a woman with cancer. The smaller, blue comfort quilt was given to her 4-year old son.

Skin Cancer Awareness Presentation
Statistics show that at least one in five Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70. In fact, anyone can develop skin cancer! That’s why we wanted to bring in an expert to help us be informed on the subject so that we can protect our skin and be aware of things to watch out for that may develop.
Dr. Amy Gagnon of Central Dermotology Center in Cary was our guest at our May 2021 Luncheon, and she shared this very informative presentation with us. In case you missed it, or if you’d like to review the information again, or even share it with a friend, just click on the image to open the document.
Funeral Pre-Planning
When someone close to us passes away, we are often left to make difficult and sensitive decisions while dealing with intense grief. That’s why funeral pre-planning can be extremely helpful. Our Senior Adults invited Amy Branch from Brown Wynne Funeral Home to share on topics such as funeral and burial options, cremation options and current laws, veteran’s benefits and more.
